What Makes This Recipe Such a Healthy Breakfast Option?
Oats-They are high in protein and fiber and contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, some of them being magnesium, iron, zinc, selenium, and vitamin B1. And if you thought you can only eat oats for breakfast or dessert, I am here to convince you otherwise with my Cottage Cheese Carrot Slice.
Yogurt-Yogurt is a great source of calcium, B vitamins, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. The amount of vitamins and minerals it contains depends highly on the type of yogurt of course. For this recipe, you can use whichever yogurt you prefer. I used plain low-fat yogurt because I wanted this recipe to be lower in calories. But, you can also use full-fat Greek yogurt if you prefer.
Honey– it is no news that honey has remarkable health benefits. People have been enjoying honey since as far back as we can record, and it is no surprise that this sweet thick liquid, often called “liquid gold” or “food of the goods” remains so popular to this day. Honey is a great source of antioxidants and shows remarkable anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. However, in this recipe, you can substitute honey for any sweetener of your choice.
Chia seeds– there is definitely a reason why these little black (or white) seeds are often categorized as a “superfood”. Chia seeds are packed with calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamins B1 and B3, and many other vitamins and minerals. They also contain a high amount of fiber, which means that meals prepared with chia seeds keep you full for longer. If you are looking for some more recipes containing chia seeds, make sure to check out my Mango Chia Yogurt.
Matcha– if you are familiar with all the health benefits green tea has to offer, you will be glad to hear that matcha offers all of them as well, but on an even higher scale. Matcha comes from the same plant as green tea. But, the slightly different process of growing matcha, and grinding it afterward into fine powder makes it much more potent than green tea. Not only does it contain more antioxidants, but it also has a higher concentration of caffeine, which makes it a great choice for that extra boost of energy. That´s why these matcha raspberry overnight oats make a perfect breakfast to start your day with full power.
Raspberries– even though they are low in calories, raspberries contain a high amount of vitamin C, Manganese, and a lower amount of many other vitamins and minerals. They are also a great source of fiber, which makes them very beneficial for your digestive health. It´s hard to believe that something so delicious is so good for you, right?
